ARTS COUNCIL OF
SAULT STE. MARIE
& DISTRICT

*************************
The Arts Council is growing in 2007

The Arts Council of Sault Ste. Marie & District will be gaining added strength this year when Catharine Dickinson [shown] comes through their doors on February 1, 2007.

Dickinson will be assuming the position of office administrator currently held by Bette Jean Dempster.

Dempster is stepping down from her administrator position with the support and well wishes of the Arts Council.

As Dempster steps out, Dickinson steps in, bringing with her a strong background of not-for-profit work and training in the office administration - executive program from Sault College.

As the most recent addition to the Arts Council, Dickinson’s background and experience will make her a valuable asset to the organization.

In addition to hiring of an office administrator, the Arts Council board of directors have recently elected Jim Aquino as president in December 2006 and he recently served on the Arts Council hiring committee for Dickinson’s position.

Aquino’s enthusiasm for Dickinson’s recent acceptance of the position is evident: “We [the hiring committee] thank all of the participants for showing an interest in the position and in the Arts Council. Catharine comes to the organization with a wealth of experience, talent and enthusiasm.”

Aquino’s history as a mayor of Wawa also gives him a unique set of skills through which the Arts Council will be sure to benefit.

His strong leadership style is proving to be inspiring to those who sit with him on the board of directors.

Currently the Arts Council board of directors is heavily involved in cordinating community efforts towards a Valentine's silent auction fundraiser which will be held in the Station Mall from February 9 to the 11.

The Arts Council of Sault Ste. Marie & District is the longest running not-for-profit Arts Council in all of Ontario.

This year they aim to further advance one of their goals of creating closer ties between business and the arts in our community.

Incorporated since 1959, the Arts Council carries with it a long lineage of employees, volunteers and board members.

Currently the Arts Council is exploring the possibilities of expanding on the already existing group of experienced and passionate individuals which comprise their board of directors.

Their current board of directors consists of Jim Aquino, Halina Peltonen, Nora-Ann Harrison, Elspeth Belair, Gail Nelson, Lucy Boston, Birgit Kroll, Kathy Poluck, Mark Primavera, Barbara Rajnovich, Mary Rossiter and David Walsh.

Catharine Dickinson will be joining Emily Colombo as office staff for the Arts Council of Sault Ste. Marie & District.
