Chris Rancourt likes music.

A lot.

As he states on his Facebook profile, "Without music, I cannot exist."

The young Sault boy, now based in London, Ontario, has been putting his marketing and promotional skills to work since starting Laris Records, which represents The Imports, in March of 2006.

Rancourt is now expanding his business in an effort to share the love he has for, not only music, but Northern Ontario as well.

Sunday, June 1 marks the official launch of Northern Rocks, a free Northern Ontario music magazine distributed in PDF format via e-mail.

"The magazine will be aimed at music lovers from North Bay to the Manitoba border with content relevant to Northern Ontario," said Rancourt in a recent e-mail sent to SooToday.com. "To qualify for exposure in this magazine, the music must be either local to the area or the band must be visiting our area within a month of the magazine's release."

Through Northern Rocks, Rancourt hopes to improve the music scene in Northern Ontario by offering local band exposure, promoting shows, providing record reviews and hopefully increasing concert attendance.

To obtain a Northern Rocks subscription, or if you wish to submit articles, news or reviews, simply send and e-mail to northern.rocks@hotmail.com.

To ensure your subscription reaches you in a timely fashion, be sure to include your first and last name as well as your e-mail address.

Rancourt will release a new issue of Northern Rocks on the first of every month.
