Dancers took to the stage this week during Superior Heights Collegiate and Vocational School's third annual Dance Gala, performing for a sold-out audience.
This gala doubled as a fundraiser for the Varsity Dance Team, which was established just three years ago and has since become one of the school’s most dynamic and fastest-growing programs.
Audience members enjoyed an Italian dinner prepared by Chef Zachary and his talented bistro class, before dancers from the Grade 10 Dance Class, the Varsity Dance Team, and the Junior Dance Team performed a total of 15 routines.

Last night, Superior Heights Collegiate and Vocational School lit up the stage with its 3rd Annual Dance Gala — an evening that combined elegance, talent, and school spirit in front of a sold-out audience.
The evening began with a delicious Italian dinner prepared by Chef Zachary and his talented bistro class, setting the tone for a night of celebration and artistry. Following the meal, the spotlight shifted to the stage, where the Grade 10 Dance Class, the Varsity Dance Team, and the Junior Dance Team performed a total of 15 captivating routines.
The Dance Gala served as a fundraiser for the Varsity Dance Team, which was established just three years ago and has since become one of the school’s most dynamic and fastest-growing programs. Interest in the team has soared this year, with 50 students auditioning for the competitive Grade 9–12 squad. The overwhelming enthusiasm led to the creation of a Junior Dance Team, now open to students in Grades 7 through 10.
The Varsity Dance Team has become a fixture at school events, performing at pep rallies, assemblies, Arts Nights, and community celebrations. A highlight each year is dancing their way through the streets behind the Superior Heights Santa Claus Rotary Parade float — a performance that’s earned them awards for best school spirit.
Beyond performances, the team is involved in sharing their love of dance with the community. They facilitate youth dance workshops and lead classes at the elementary level, sharing their passion and encouraging young dancers to explore the art form.
Competitively, the team has already seen great success at events like the View Dance Competition and the Audience Dance Rivalry Competition. Their next big stage will be the Ontario Secondary School Dancefest, taking place May 21–24 in Waterloo. Dancefest is a province-wide celebration that brings together secondary students from across Ontario to share their love of dance. Participants choreograph and perform routines, receive professional adjudication, and take part in workshops led by some of Canada’s top dancers and choreographers.
As the Superior Heights dance program continues to grow, it’s clear that this talented team is just getting started. This year, they will graduate eight exceptional leaders in dance: Kirsten Dubien, Emily Biasucci, Ashley Christianson, Hailey Ducharme, Damian Gasperas, Sophie Rose, Casie Johnstone, and Dannika Wansbrough — each of whom has made a lasting, positive impact on their school community through dance.
Tryouts for the Superior Dance Team are held in September and are open to all students in Grades 9 through 12.
