Alan Doyle and the Beautiful Gypsies played to a crowd of 600 at The Machine Shop Friday night with the Sault’s own Boothill Crooners in the opening slot.
Obviously enamoured with the performance space, the former front man of Newfoundland's Great Big Sea raised a beer to toast our newest concert venue and his first official concert of the summer.
Friday’s set list included I’ve Seen A Little, My Day, Where The Nightingales Sing, Testify, and Break It Slow from Boy On Bridge; I Can’t Dance Without You, Laying Down To Perish, 1 2 3 4, Shine On, and the title track from So Let’s Go; and Run Runaway, Ordinary Day, Lukey, Sea of No Cares, Hit The Ground and Run, and The Old Black Rum from his Great Big Sea catalogue.
Doyle’s tour will take him to Kirkland Lake Saturday where he’ll also host a book signing for Where I Belong: Small Town to Great Big Sea.
Other tour stops include Winnipeg, Edmonton, Niagara-on-the-Lake, St. John’s, and more.
