She wanders from the edge of folk to contemporary jazz with a hint of mid-eastern exoticism that is wrapped up in a blanket of pop music. Critics have hailed her music as both "sultry" and "mesmerizing." Songstress Yael Wand will be bringing her distinct voice and songs to Loplops Lounge on Wednesday, October 20th.
Born in Haifa, Israel, raised in Vancouver, and currently living in the central interior mountains of B.C., Wand has been touring the country satisfying what she labels an "unquenchable passion."
At an early age, Wand was a member of Vancouver-based folk trio Perpetuum. After releasing one acclaimed cd, Midnight Sun, the trio broke up. As a solo artist, she has released the 13-track Antinomy CD earlier this year. The CD features rich melodies and strong singable choruses, all set to a lush organic backdrop of cello, guitar, and exotic rhythms.
Wand has performed from Tel Aviv to Montreal, and has the ability to connect with her audience wherever she performs.
