Volunteers at Destiny Christian Centre hosted their annual barbecue and backpack giveaway on Saturday; the Wallace Terrace church also donated toys, household goods, and other essentials for less fortunate families

Back-to-school expenses can be high, so one local church is making it easier for less fortunate families to send their kids to school with all the necessary supplies.

Members and volunteers with Destiny Christian Centre invited hundreds to their Wallace Terrace property on Saturday for their annual backpack barbecue event.

Children of all ages were given a brand-new backpack filled with a variety of school supplies.

More than 200 backpacks were donated this afternoon, which surpassed the church's total from last year.

Thanks to CityServe, Destiny Christian Centre offered an assortment of giveaways and items for kids and parents, including toys, bed sheets, towels, bathroom accessories, kitchen supplies, household goods, and games.

Attendees also enjoyed burgers and hot dogs, as well as face painting, cotton candy, and a bouncy park.
