Spectators were treated to a cultural showing of dancing, singing, and drumming this afternoon as the 18th annual Gathering at the Rapids Powwow kicked off at the George Leach Centre.
Celebrating life long learning, this year's powwow invited hundreds to participate in Anishinaabe culture, which included crafts and traditional food from vendors on-site at the GLC and The Speakeasy on Algoma University campus.
The weekend's festivities will continue with a feast later today at 5 p.m., followed by Grand Entry at 7 p.m. Sunday will feature another Grand Entry at 12 p.m.
Admission and parking are free and all events are open to the public. Canned food donations for the Algoma University Students’ Union (AUSU) Food Pantry are encouraged.
