Members of the Sault Malayalee Association will hold an Onam celebration entitled ‘Aaravam 2024’ from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22 at the Marconi Multicultural Event Centre located at 450 Albert St. W.
The Malayalee community comes from the Indian state of Kerala, located in southwestern India.
Onam is a festival enjoyed by the Malayalee community around the world, celebrating harvest season.
The day’s activities will include a traditional Onam Sadhya (feast) with authentic Kerala cuisine, traditional music, dance, art and traditional Onam games for all ages.
“Onam is one of the most cherished festivals celebrated with great enthusiasm by the Malayalee community across the globe. It marks the harvest season and embodies the spirit of unity, prosperity, and togetherness. Our organization takes immense pride in organizing a grand Onam Celebration and this year's event promises to be a memorable one for all attendees,” wrote Jinse Sunny, Sault Malayalee Association general secretary in a release.
“The Onam Celebration will be a captivating showcase of our rich cultural heritage, featuring traditional performances, vibrant art forms, music, dance, and the signature Onam Sadya (feast) with an array of delectable dishes. There will also be engaging activities for children and adults alike, ensuring an unforgettable experience for everyone. We believe that this event will not only provide an opportunity for the Malayalee community to come together but also offer a unique cultural experience to people from diverse backgrounds,” the release states.

- Students: $20
- Children (10-17): $10
- Children under 10: Free Entry
- Newcomers (September Intake): $10
