Lollapalooza schedule includes a couple Canucks

The full 130 band Lollapalooza line up was officially announced in a press release yesterday.

In addition to the old and new ground-breakers and chart-toppers such as Pearl Jam, Modest Mouse, Iggy and the Stooges and Ben Harper, a few Canadian bands made the cut including the Tokyo Police Club.

Less than a year ago, the Tokyo Police Club graced the tiny stage at the Downbeat Lounge, playing to an audience of about 20 people.

My, how things have changed for these four dudes from Newmarket, Ontario in such a short period of time.

These bands will descend upon Chicago's Grant Park August 3-5, 2007 for one of the most anticipated music events of the year.

Almost 170,000 attendees took in Lollapalooza 2006 and the event raised more than $928,000 for the Chicago Park District.

Although music is the focus, other activities and initiatives play a major part in the event's success.

Kidzapalooza is a wonderland for the young and includes art, music and dance lessons, a drum circle, a petting zoo, a recording studio and a gaming area sponsored by PlayStation.

Green initiatives will be in practice across the entire site, encouraging recycling and offering workshops and demonstrations.

Lollapalooza stages will be operated by generators fueled strictly with biodiesel, renewable energy credits will be purchased to offset the impact of the show, all vendors will use biodegradable or compostable plates and bags, left over food will be donated to a local food pantry and all construction materials will be reused or recycled.

Tickets are now available, free of any hidden costs or fees and buyers have the convenience of printing their tickets themselves to avoid shipping costs.
