Never try to outshine Ms Benatar. You'll lose (photos)

Some basic rules to remember when attending a Pat Benatar concert:

1. Refrain from attending a Pat Benatar concert clad in 80s Benatar-style rock diva garb. This includes spandex, leg warmers and stilettos. Not even Pat Benatar wears 80s Benatar-style rock diva garb anymore.

2. If attending said rock concert dressed in 80s Benatar-style rock diva garb, ensure you have not consumed copious amounts of alcohol.

3. If you have chosen to ignore rules 1 and 2, for the love of all that is great and good in the world, do not jump on stage during the encore in an attempt to prove how cool you are. The actual 80s rock diva on stage will see this as the complete opposite of cool.

4. If you do happen to find yourself on stage dodging security during the encore at a Pat Benatar concert clad in 80s Benatar-style rock diva garb while under the influence of copious amounts of alcohol, do not under any circumstances attempt to touch and/or strum Ms. Benatar's husband's guitar. Especially while he's playing it.

5. If you have completely thrown rules 1 through 4 out the window, don't even think about getting backstage after the show. After your uncool attempt at coolness, you haven't got a chance.

And so it happened that one young lady was all but carried off stage by security at Sunday night's Pat Benatar show at Kewadin's Dream Makers Theatre.

Ms. Benatar didn't miss a beat, however, aptly protected from the stumbling diva wannabe by Neil "Spyder" Giraldo, Benatar's husband and musical collaborator of almost 30 years.

In addition to stumbling diva wannabes, the show had everything one would expect from a performer of Benatar's calibre.

Strong, passionate vocals, stellar musicianship and all her hits, including Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Love is a Battlefield, Invincible, Hell is for Children, We Belong, Shadows of the Night and All Fired Up.

Although it was obvious that Benatar was belting it out with the same fervor and skill as she did in her 80s heydays, the sound technician for some reason felt the need to bury her vocals in the back of the mix, making her almost inaudible at times.

It was highly disappointing.

Despite this, Benatar's brilliant performance won't be soon forgotten.

Neither will the stumbling diva wannabe.
