Rae Spoon Dishes Out The Goods This Thursday

It certainly isn't old style country. It most definitely isn't new country. Some have called it "true cowboy folk." However you decide to label it, Rae Spoon is a truly unique voice in Canadian music.

Spoon who is appearing for an encore performance at the Downbeat Lounge, this Thursday, September 16th, is an Alberta native who defies stereotypes and cliches by mixing in an "old-fashioned" style of songwriting with the perspective of a 22-year old. Oft described as a James Dean-esque character with a love of singing about heartbreak, politics and straw, Spoon's recent full-length release, "Throw Some Dirt On Me," has received nothing but accolades.

Since emerging onto the music scene in 2001, Spoon has built up a diverse following by sharing the stage with everyone from Winnipeg punk legends Propagandhi to folk icon Shari Ulrich. The music on "Throw Some Dirt On Me" is just as diverse featuring Spoon's special brand of five-string banjo fingerpicking, mixed with a double-bass, mandolins, acoustic guitar, a pedal steel guitar, squeeze box and sweet vocals.

Armed with only a cowbay hat, white shirt, and a collection of songs, Spoon will be proving to the Downbeat crowd why the label of "one of Canada's leading new storyteller songwriters" so aptly fits.
