Old Blind Dogs to howl at LSSU Arts Center

SAULT STE. MARIE, Michigan – No one will be breaking any rules about allowing pets on campus when Lake Superior State University (LSSU) brings Scotland's Old Blind Dogs into its Arts Center auditorium for one night this month.

Part of Central Michigan University's "Our Front Porch" series, the Dogs will stop at LSSU as part of a three-day visit to Michigan, September 21 to 23.

The LSSU performance is at 8 p.m. on Friday, September 22.

Tickets are available at the Norris Center box office, 906-635-2602, or the CMU box office, 888-268-0111.

The Old Blind Dogs formed in 1990 and have seen a variety of talented musicians play with the band during its existence.

Original member Jonny Hardie is still a mainstay on fiddle, mandolin and guitar, and is joined by Aaron Jones on bass and bouzouki, Rory Campbell on border (reel) pipes and whistles, and Fraser Stone on drums and percussion.

The Our Front Porch performances will be some of the first without lead singer Jim Malcolm, who has left the band.

Old Blind Dogs' roots are in Aberdeenshire on Scotland's northeast coast, an area known for traditional songs and fiddle tunes.

The group has become one of Scotland's favorite folk bands, known for playing traditional tunes as well as contemporary songs.

The Montreal Gazette called the band "a Scots neo-traditional supergroup with a bracingly modern musical attack."

Old Blind Dogs has released eight recordings and has toured around the world.

With a loyal following in North America, the band began a U.S. tour in late July that took them to New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio over 12 days before a quick trip home for shows in Scotland.

They have since returned to the U.S.

Tickets for the LSSU performance are $22 general admission and $5 for students with LSSU ID.
