Based out of Prescott Ontario, an area known as a battle site for Canadian independence, The Populars seem fed up with the trend new music has taken and have risen to fight it by reaching back in music history and drawing on influences such as Fugazi, The Police, Husker Du and the Pixies.

As singer/guitar player Dave Klym told Alberta's Vue Weekly in 2005, “Right now, we’re basically back in about 1988, but instead of hair bands, we have Nickelback. The lyrics are *bleep*, the music is boring and the videos are like beer commercials...People like the Clash and Fugazi are a little more honest than what’s happening today, and we’ve tried to be more like that. I’m not saying we’re Bob Dylan or anything, but you have to stand for something if you’re going to make music...The kids are going to get sick of listening to the crap that gets shoved down their throats just like they did last time in 1991.”

The former backing band for roots-rocker Mike Plume has gone in a totally new direction since parting company with him more than three years ago...from a singer/song writer style to an angry power trio writing songs about how much the world has ticked them off. This seems somewhat cathartic for them...ummm...one of their tunes is called "Hurry Up And Die"....enough said.

Representing this stand against convention are their white, orange and red flags of solidarity that grace every stage they play...and their website...and their MySpace page...and of course the cover of "The Vindicator LP", their totally rockin' 2005 release from Kindling Music. You can buy it their show...their show happening at the Downbeat Lounge Friday July 21...their show that will start around 11:00pm.

Come early, sign up for the Broken Arm Brigade, hear some amazing music and join the popular kids...or the not so popular kids...all depends on how you look at it...
