Startlefish to release highly anticipated CD
Local band will record performance for live disk

June 20, 2005 (SAULT STE. MARIE) – On Thursday June 23, local band Startlefish will be releasing their first CD entitled Regretfully Yours at a special concert, to be held in the Algoma University Auditorium at 7 p.m.

The band currently consists of guitarist/singer/songwriter Craig West, drummer Ed Young, and bassist Mark Gough. The trio will be performing in their signature "acoustic rock" format, which features a full band sound and style but without electric guitars. They will be performing exclusively original material.

In addition to being a special CD release event, the concert at Algoma University will be recorded live by George Ravlich of Crank Sound Distribution with the intention of releasing a live CD later this year.

The Regretfully Yours CD represents over a years worth of work in the recording studio, and features Craig West and Ed Young along with bass guitarists Mike Robillard and Christopher Walls.

The CD was recorded and produced by Larry Borek at Red Gecko Studios on St. Joseph's Island and was mastered by Mark Gough at Southpine Studios in Sault Ste. Marie.

Startlefish have experienced several lineup changes over the last two years, including most recently the departure of long-time bassist Christopher Walls in early June 2005.

Mark Gough who mastered the CD has stepped in to replace Walls for the immediate future.

Over the last year, the band has experienced success as a regular part of the local music scene, and has also made headway with the help of the Internet.

In one year online, the band's website www.startlefish.com has seen over 2000 song downloads, and hundreds of regular visitors.

Some of the songs downloaded from the site were previews from the Regretfully Yours CD and some have been live recordings.

"The Internet has not only helped us build to a following, but has also functioned as a means of distribution," claims bandleader Craig West, "I can't overstate how important it (the Internet) has become for independent musicians trying to get their music out there."

Tickets for the concert on Thursday are $15.00 for a single admission, and this includes one free copy of the Regretfully Yours CD, or $20.00 for a couple, which also includes one free copy of the CD.

Tickets are currently available at CD Plus in the Cambrian Mall and at The Rad Zone in the Wellington Square Mall.

Tickets will also be available at the door.
