Surfers play stuff they don't know (photos, video)

Foggy Notions was teaming with solid rock and/or roll music this weekend as the Inner City Surfers returned home for three full shows, including an all-ages event early Saturday evening with the White Chapel District.

Not for the purist of any sort, a Surfers' show is a rabid feast for the senses as they scamper like topless over-stimulated preteens chasing pretty girls made of chocolate.

Peppered with elements of punk, rockabilly and country, the music is just as high-strung and frenzied, fueled by countless shots of Jagermeister and a genuine love for what they do.

And they do it well.

Eager audiences at both the Friday and Saturday performances were treated to a torrent of new material from their up-coming album.

"This is good. We're gonna keep playing stuff we don't know," joked Dustin Jones.

"The new album will be out this spring or summer. Or the fall. Maybe this winter, we don't know," added Brad Lacell.

Old favourites like the high-powered, self-doubting Step Back, the debauched The Quest, the ultimate sex, drugs and rock and roll song, Booze n' Doobs and the angst-ridden Commandments never disappoint and successfully had the crowd in a lather.

Dustin Jones, Dave Bahun, Brad Lacell and Mike Hawdon return for two nights at Foggy Notions June 22 and 23.

Here's hoping the new album will accompany them.

I don't think their fans can wait until winter.
