Third time for Second Stage (photos)

You couldn't ask for a nicer day to host an outdoor music festival than Saturday, July 21.

Presented by Tenaris Algoma Tubes, the third annual Rotaryfest Second Stage jammed an entire block of Queen Street with original live music, yummy munchies and spectators from all walks of life.

The event kicked off at 1 p.m. with the wildly popular Wild Turkeys who, as always, kept the toes tapping.

The music encompassed every genre from country to progressive rock, pleasing the equally diverse audience which included a few dive-bombing dragonflies and numerous spectators of the canine sort.

Domino and Fozzie could not resist accompanying Big Wheel and the Spokes with an energetic chorus of distinctive Basset Hound backing vocals.

While not nearly as funky as Big Wheel, the two hounds did compliment the blues side of the band in a rather humourous sort of way.

Ripping into some solid rock n' roll, the Revue and James McKenty and the Spades were not not afraid to kick it up a notch and made many new fans as a result.

Adding a refreshing touch of jazziness to the event were the sultry voices of both Megan Jerome and Cindy Doire.

A necessity at any summer music event, the Granola People and Clay Rooster had the folk aspect competently covered while the lovely and talented Catherine Taddo showcased her signature blues/rock style.

Coordinator, Steve Alexander was very pleased with the attendance, especially when the numbers peaked at about 400 for the final engaging multi-media performance delivered by IT.

Almost as popular as the music were the juicy jumbo sausages and artfully assembled sandwiches provided by Neil's Diner.

Len Ward from the Rad Zone was also kept on his toes as he manned the merch table which saw a continuous flow of customers throughout the duration of the festival.

The third time was definitely a charm for Second Stage, and Alexander looks forward to continued growth for this highly anticipated summer event.
