The Art Hub will be hosting an exhibition of paintings this month dubbed the Agawa Coastal Trail series.
The exhibition opens on April 9 and features work by Taimi Poldmaa. It will run until April 26.
Following is a full release outlining the exhibition and its availability:
Along the water’s edge, just north of the Agawa River, winds a rugged, picturesque coastal trail. It snakes around massive boulders and sheer cliffs of granite, with tree trunks, rocks and path cloaked in bright mosses and lichen. The enormous caves formed by fallen granite must be crawled under and wriggled around to navigate this jagged trail. A hiking expedition along the Lake Superior coastline led Taimi to this location, where she experienced a mystical encounter that determined the Agawa Coastal Trail series of paintings.
This presentation draws the audience into an exploration of pristine forest, moss laden rocks and enormous granite structures, to discover the spiritual power of nature. The geological history of the Lake Superior coastline is a fascinating aspect and inspiration for painters, hikers and naturalists. Geological formations become points of reference as spiritually contemplative places in the wilderness, and they also tell a story about prehistoric events of our land and where we live.
Strong contrasts of values and textures are the dominant design elements of these paintings. The unique arrangement of rock formations, dark shadows, fragments of light, hues of vivid greens, deep earthy browns and oranges with tones of pink and violet illustrate the primeval, haunting tranquility of this site.
Taimi has been painting the Lake Superior landscape for more than 14 years. Seven solo exhibitions, frequent juried shows with numerous awards for her work and Ontario Arts Council projects grants have contributed to significant advancement in her art career. An outstanding accomplishment was to exhibit at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in 2010 and 2015.
