LSSU Arts Center hosts holiday ballet performances

SAULT STE. MARIE, Michigan - Holiday ballet is coming to the Arts Center at Lake Superior State University (LSSU) on Saturday, December 2

The USA Ballet Company will present afternoon and evening performances of, "Twas the Night Before Christmas."

USA Ballet is a world-class international company based in Bloomington/Normal, Illinois.

It has taken the country by storm with spectacular productions, television features, lecture demonstrations, and guest appearances.

The troupe is highly regarded by audiences and critics alike.

"This should be a holiday treat for the kids, but the fact that it is USA Ballet gives it the seal of approval as a quality dance presentation for all ages," said Bill Crawford, LSSU vice president for university relations.

"This will be very good Christmas presentation, definitely aimed at the entire family," Crawford said.

The company puts on such presentations nationwide each year, and features 14 to 17 dancers under the direction of Dr. Kenneth Bello, who also serves as a principal dancer.

Michelle Holmes-Bello, who is artistic director and principal dancer, has danced with the Empire State Ballet and MBC Ballet prior to USA Ballet.

Dr. Ken Bello has a rich family lineage in ballet that dates back four generations to the Maryinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Among the dancers who will appear in Sault Ste. Marie are Natalia Moreno from Argentina; Tarasina Masi from Russia; Tonya Milne, originally from Waterloo, Ontario; and Anthony Ford from Hamilton, Ontario.

"We think this is a quality holiday presentation for anyone who appreciates ballet or professional artistic performance in general," said Crawford.

"We're thankful to our sponsors and to USA Ballet for making this opportunity possible," he said.

USA Ballet's presentation of "Twas the Night Before Christmas" is at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for children and students, and are available online by clicking here or by visiting the Norris Center ticket office.

Event sponsors for USA Ballet include Comfort Inn of Sault Ste. Marie, LSSU Food Services, Little Caesar's and Guido's Pizza.
