Dr. Walker to speak on art history at Bayliss Library

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI - We are pleased to announce the return of humanities professor Dr. James "Ted" Walker to Bayliss Library on August 18, at 7 p.m.

With his retirement from Ferris State University this year after 40 years of teaching, he has selected as this year's topic "The Five Greatest Paintings in Western Art."

The five works of art that will be the focus of his talk are Michelangelo's Sistine Ceiling, Rembrandt's Bathsheba, Delacroix's Liberty Leading the People, Munch's The Scream, and Picasso's Guernica.

For 30 years Dr. Walker was professor of Humanities and Art History at Ferris State University, where he was honored with the Distinguished Teacher Award.

He has spoken previously at the library on Nazi art, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, cave paintings, and Christian art.

Dr. Walker earned his undergraduate degree in history from Lake Superior State University, where he also taught in the 1970s.

His M.A. in Medieval Studies is from Western Michigan University, and his Ph.D. in Humanities with a specialization in art history is from Florida State University.

In addition to his teaching, he has led art history study-abroad trips to Europe.

You are invited to come to Bayliss Public Library for another lively evening of inspiring images and discourse by a master teacher.

The program is free to the public.

The Friends of the Library will provide refreshments.
