Soo Greyhounds season kicks off with a downtown block party

FRIDAY, SEPT. 30

  • The 2022 Soo Greyhounds Season Opener Block Party happens on Queen Street East between Bruce and Dennis Streets from 4 to 7 p.m. The tailgate-style celebration will include food and refreshments, live music, games and more.
  • Tech N9ne performs at SooBlaster, 345 Queen St. E., with special guests King Iso and Robbie G. Doors open at 7 p.m. You must be 19 or older to attend. Tickets are $40 and may be purchased online https://techn9nesoo.eventbrite.ca/
  • The Soo Greyhounds face the North Bay Battalion in this year’s season opener at the GFL Memorial Gardens. The puck drops at 7:07 p.m.
  • Bastards and the Buzzards from Ottawa are scheduled to play Outspoken Brewing, 350 Queen St. E. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance, or $15 at the door.
  • Wyld Stallyns perform at Shooters Lounge, 68 Dennis St., starting at 8 p.m.
  • Indigenous Tourism Ontario will host a Weekend for Truth and Reconciliation Drone Show at the Silver Creek Golf Course in Garden River. At 9 p.m., the presentation will happen in Anishinaabemowin. At 10 p.m., the show will happen again in English. The show will be an intimate story entitled Mewnizha, a creation story to guide each individual's pathway to Truth and Reconciliation, featuring storyteller, Elder, and language keeper Barbara Nolan.

SATURDAY, OCT. 1

  • The Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast returns to the Conservation Authority Sugar Shack (1100 Fifth Line E.) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Adults $10, seniors (65+) $8, children (6-12) $5, children (0-5) free. Cash only, please.
  • Doors Open Ontario invites residents to explore the many historic building and sites in the Sault Ste. Marie area from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Local sites include Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig, Bishophurst, the Canal District, and more.   • The Country Road Open House self-guided tour of St. Joseph Island happens from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tour maps are available from Kent’s Corner Rentals. For more information, visit the Facebook page.
  • Thomson Farms presents its corn maze and Pumpkin Fest from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The day includes fresh baking, food and refreshments, corn cannons tractor wagon rides, and more.
  • The Soo Greyhounds face the North Bay Battalion at the GFL Memorial Gardens. The puck drops at 7:07 p.m.
  • Midlife Crysis performs at Shooters Lounge, 68 Dennis St., starting at 8 p.m.
  • Black Fly Jam presents Ray Bonneville at The Loft at the Algoma Conservatory of Music. Music begins at 8 p.m.
  • Matthew James plays the Whisky Barrel, 113 Gore St., from 8 p.m. until midnight.
  • Tym Morrison performs at Reggie’s Tavern from 9:30 p.m. until 1:30 a.m.

SUNDAY, OCT. 2

  • The organizers behind Steel City NerdCon present the first ever Steel City CollectorCon at the Moose Lodge, 543 Trunk Rd., from noon to 5 p.m. The event features more than 50 tables of collectibles from vendors around Ontario. Admission is $5 at the door.
  • Tym Morrison plays an afternoon matinee show at Shooters Lounge, 68 Dennis ST., starting at 3 p.m.
