Where does a cowboy get coconuts? (6 photos)

Although fish may be the traditional meal on Good Friday, the Bottom's Up Lounge was dishing out hot, healthy servings of turkey.
Although fish may be the traditional meal on Good Friday, the Bottom's Up Lounge was dishing out hot, healthy servings of turkey.

Comprised of five brothers from two families, local Goulaigan bumpkin band, the Wild Turkeys kicked off the holiday weekend with a hootenanny of a CD release party.

Vaughn "Junk Drawer" Alexander (suit case, drawer, cooking pot and coconuts), Devin "Uncle Whiskey" Alexander (bass and washboard), Byron "Big B" Jaaskelainen (fiddle), Marshall "Fitzy" Jasskelainen (mandolin) and Sheldon "Tipsy" Jasskelainen (guitar, crooning, fiddle and harmonica) donned their finest country wear as they entertained an equally decked out and boisterous audience.

The house was packed and dancers were plentiful.

Classic rural favourites like Cigarettes and Whiskey and Wild Wild Women, Orange Blossom Special and Have You Ever Seen the Devil, Uncle Joe? meshed seamlessly with the original tunes showcased on their appropriately titled CD, Unplucked.

Ditties such as Durdy House Blues, Lights Out Charlie and I Sat On an Ant Hill and Now Red Ants are Biting Me in the Trousers had the crowd jumping like -- well -- like they had ants in their pants, funny enough.

Other songs on the CD speak of such poignant issues like hikin' up your pants and eating potatoes in Hayfield Crooner, the joys of consuming questionable fluids in Pond Water Guzzlers and the dangers of a so-called good deal in Cheap Old Truck.

"Sheldon bought one. Vaughn bought one. They both sit in Sheldon's back yard," say the liner notes.

Dedicated to Walter MacDuncan, Sheldon's dear friend and beloved pet Nubian Billy Goat who passed away a few months ago, Unplucked is beautifully played and masterfully recorded.

The Wild Turkeys have proved themselves worthy of a place next to my Johnny Cash and Hank Williams recordings while not taking anything too seriously.

But where exactly does a cowboy get coconuts?
