ELLIOT LAKE - Dance students from Studio Dance Arts Elliot Lake recently wrapped up a thrilling performance experience at the Lester B. Pearson Civic Centre.

Motus O Dance Theatre - a southern Ontario-based professional touring company - made a stop in Elliot Lake on November 25 to present its rendition of A Christmas Carol.

Auditions for dancers and actors were held for various roles in the Motus O production.

At the conclusion of the selection process, the Motus O directors cast fourteen dancers from Elliot Lake’s Studio Dance Arts in the show.

Rehearsals took place on Friday night from 5 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

A final three hour dress rehearsal on Sunday was held before the actual performance on Sunday evening.

Richard Kim, co-owner/director of Studio Dance Arts says: “What a wonderful opportunity this was for our students. To experience things like an audition process, rehearsing with directors, actors and other artists, and performing alongside a professional company, is extremely important. These kinds of venues allow our students to apply their dance education to a real professional practical setting.”

SDA Elliot Lake dancers who were cast in the show, included; Hannah May, Jessica Smith, Jordan Smith, Emilie Lefebvre, Cassie Smith, Mya Smith, Brooke Patry, Kelsey Patry, Taylor Caron, Sarah Tyler, Anik Marie, Brynn Alpajaro, Rebecca MacKay, Hillary Clark, Brynn Alpajaro and Devlin Cousins.

“I’m so proud of our students for their involvement in the Motus O production. It’s nice to see these kinds of performance opportunities for dancers,” says SDA’s other co-owner/director Matthew Caruso.

Studio Dance Arts is in its third season in Elliot Lake and recently re-located to the White Mountain Academy building on Spine Road.

The school offers PreSchool, Recreational and Competitive dance programs.

SDA also has runs classes in Blind River and Sault Ste. Marie.
