Thursday, July 12, 2007 was the day local progressive metal band, Gates of Winter decided to premiere two tracks from their forth coming new release, Lux Aeterna.

Life Force Rapture and Gates of Winter are available free for download on the website, the MySpace page, and BW&BK.

It would appear the new music falls under either the "love it" or "hate it" category based on fan and not-so-fan response.

"When I received your newsletter, I was very eager to peek inside. What is it I find? BAM two tracks. So I listened to each many times over and the more I listen the more I get blown away. I am not just saying this cause we are friends and have shared the stage many times over and partied more then our fair share in each others company. I mean this as a musician sitting and trying to pick out every flaw...This is so well produced." - Beyond Within Dave, from Gates of Winter forum.

"Oh my gosh. I just listened to Life Force Rapture and wow. Beautiful. Instrumentally you are amazing! Vocally, just haunting! In a good way of course! That's super! Jon, I'm so glad your dad told me about your band!" - Catherine, from Gates of Winter MySpace page.

"This might be the worst thing I've ever heard." - Hades_666, from Blabbermouth.net

And what do the boys of Gates of Winter think about the mixed reviews?

As Steve Furgiuele (AKA. Fuge), bass player for Gates states on their forum, "Sweet. Round two at blabbermouth and listeners hated us. Right on! LOL. To each their own style. It's all good! I am just jacked we made it and a random preorder from the f**kin' UK made me happy."

With a new website, some exciting promotion prospects and a CD set for release shortly, it is inspiring to see the band take a few bad comments in stride, remain positive and continue to trudge forward.

Official Band Bio

Gates of Winter has been a driving force since 2003, through customary lineup changes and endless hours of practice, to finally make a stamp on the metal music scene in 2007.

Throughout their career, the band has played over 50 live shows, privileged to open for Canadian underground giants Quo Vadis and Martyr.

The album Lux Aeterna will mark their independent debut album which personifies their inspirations and influences into 60 minutes of pure energy, melody and passion.

Sonically, Gates of Winter is a collection of Opeth, Dream Theater and Dark Tranquility combined into one wave of melodic, symphonic metal.

The band has had much online success with awards on GarageBand.com, a highly trafficked official band site, Myspace portfolio and regular airplay on two popular US-based online radio stations KWTF and Dementia Radio.

Finally, the instrumental Gates of Winter will soon be featured on a commercial for North American television station, The Fight Network.

Gates of Winter has always maintained a tight relationship with fans.

With over 300 emails currently subscribed to their newsletter, they offer numerous give-aways and contests to maintain that connection with the listeners.

Since its inception, the members have always pushed self promotion and have dared to become stagnant, constantly pushing this growing entity forward.
