You know you want it

The Art Gallery of Algoma is presenting Abundance: Five Star Eating, by David McClyment.

The exhibit will be held from March 8 to 31 at the Art Gallery of Algoma, and will include McClyment's work "You Know You Want It" (pictured).

The gallery will host a "Meet the Artist Reception" on Thursday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m.

The following is condensed from a biography of David McClyment forwarded to SooToday.com by the gallery.

David McClyment was trained in classical painting technique at Ontario College of Art, graduating with that school's medal for fine arts.

He has been exhibiting professionally in the Toronto area for over 25 years.

McClyment has been quite active in the artist-run movement and has been associated with a number of collectives and commercial co-operatives.

Through his involvement with BVW, a Toronto based collective, McClyment's work has toured Italy and Germany a number of times through the 1990's, culminating in a solo exhibition in Sicily in 2000.

Recently, his work has toured Ontario with stops in Toronto, North Bay, Sudbury, Stouffville and Elora.

This past fall he mounted a critically acclaimed exhibition that was also featured in Nuit Blanche at the David Kaye Gallery, in the Queen West Gallery District in Toronto.

Upcoming exhibitions include work at the Art Gallery of Algoma in Sault Ste. Marie.

His paintings, which typically feature the use of hand-cut stencils on wood, have been the focus of numerous, generous grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council and Toronto Arts Councils.

In addition, McClyment's limited edition bookworks, that are designed to complement his exhibition of paintings, have become the focus of many collectors.

He has taught enhanced, hands-on workshops and courses on a free-lance basis for a number of school boards across Toronto and Ontario.

In addition, McClyment has been a long-time project officer for Visual Arts Ontario, being a principal in the development and presentation of that organization's career management workshops and self-help guides.

McClyment currently teaches professional practices courses at Centennial College and the Toronto School of Art.
