WATCH: Mayor talks tariffs, potholes and why the police budget is such a mess

After releasing his latest six-month progress report, the mayor stopped by our SooToday studio for what has become a regular conversation about the big issues facing Sault Ste. Marie

Mayor Matthew Shoemaker has released his latest six-month progress report, his attempt to keep the community up to date on the state of his election-campaign promises.

Like we do after each report, SooToday invited the mayor to our downtown studio for an in-depth chat.

The interview covers a lot of ground, from potholes to tariffs to the future of Algoma Steel.

We also asked the mayor to explain went wrong with last year's police budget. As previously reported, the service overshot its 2024 budget by $2.9 million, leaving the city in a tough spot to try to make up that overage.

Is the old hospital still being demolished? Roundabout at Goulais Avenue and Second Line? We asked about that, too.

How would you grade Mayor Shoemaker's performance since his election in 2022? Please fill out the poll below.
