NEWS RELEASE
ROTARY CLUB OF SAULT STE MARIE
*************************
Do you have a high school student in your life that would benefit from a year abroad learning about and experiencing a new culture?
The Rotary Youth Exchange Program provides a once-in-a-lifetime experience for young leaders looking interested in advancing international understanding, goodwill, and peace.
This year’s information session for parents and candidates will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 6 p..m. in the Plummer Room at City Hall.
“Through Rotary Youth Exchange, I was immersed in a new culture and was able to share what made my homeland so special. A 16-year-old ambassador promoting global peace just by being in a foreign country, and interacting with people in the simple act of living, breaking bread, and by building friendships,” shares past Rotary Youth Exchange student, Brendan O’Connor. “Thanks to Rotary, I was able to spend a year studying abroad in Turkey.”
A Rotary Youth Exchange student is an ambassador of his or her country and city, sponsored by their Rotary Club and school. They will share their culture, language and country with fellow students, host families, and new friends.
The deadline for submitting preliminary applications is Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 4:30 p.m. at the Rotary office, 364 Queen St. E. A printable form as well as an online form can be found here.
Students that are accepted into the program will attend four District sponsored week-end conferences to prepare them for their year abroad. “Outbound" students will depart for their assigned country in either July or August of 2019 for approximately eleven months.
