Algoma Manor Nursing Home will be delivering an immersive and collaborative Practical Nursing program. The training will be hosted at Algoma Manor’s classroom and will feature virtual theory with concurrent practical experience conducted as part of Algoma Manor’s Living Classroom model of learning. A Living Classroom model is one that integrates education into long-term care homes to support workforce development. Algoma Manor currently offers a PSW Living Classroom in partnership with Sault College.
By expanding, Algoma Manor remains committed to providing the North Shore with progressive opportunities for professional development.
This program will be offered free to all applicants and acceptance into the program will be generated through an interview process. All training costs for the program will be covered by Algoma Manor with a signed training agreement. Applicants are also provided with guaranteed employment with Algoma Manor and their various outreach programs and services after the successful completion of training.
Algoma Manor’s CEO, Pamela Ficociello, states “This program expansion is a wonderful addition to our current Living Classroom model of learning. Our goal is to provide immersive training experiences built from hands-on learning practiced directly in the LTCH and our various outreach programs and services. We look forward to expanding and enhancing educational opportunities within the North Shore.”
The Practical Nursing training is scheduled to begin in January 2026. Students applying for the Practical Nursing program must have OSSD including Grade 12 C English, Grade 12 C Math and two different Grade 11 or 12 C Science subjects (i.e. Chemistry, Biology, Physics) with a minimal grade of 65 per cent in each required course. Mature students aged 19 years of age or older (and do not possess an OSSD), can write a Skillsmarker to access eligibility for admission. Additional testing or academic upgrading may be necessary to meet specific course requirements for this program.
