GALLERY: Animal lovers rally for cat welfare at upcoming fundraiser

The Animal Assistance Group (TAAG) is hosting a silent auction on June 21, aiming to raise money for veterinary care, including spaying and neutering services.

A group of local animal lovers is stepping up to raise funds for cat care.

The Animal Assistance Group - commonly known as TAAG - will be holding a silent auction from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 21 at The Tech Complex located at 130 Wellington St. E.

The funds are much needed.

“Our number one goal is to educate and promote spaying and neutering of cats. That's the only way we’re going to reduce the number of unwanted litters in the community. The shelters are all full and with the way the economy is now, who can afford a vet? Every dollar raised by the auction will go toward veterinarian bills for spaying and neutering of cats,” said Marisa Rougeau, TAAG spokesperson.

TAAG also does its best to find homes for unwanted felines.

“We take in homeless animals, mostly cats. What we do is provide food, shelter, medical attention and foster them until these homeless animals are found a permanent home. We foster but we're just overwhelmed. We don't have enough foster homes to meet the need,” Rougeau told SooToday

TAAG was registered as a charity in the late 1980s.

It can be contacted by email or through the The Animal Assistance Group (TAAG) Facebook page.

“People can log in there and we have all the animals that are available and up for adoption,” Rougeau said.

Rougeau also said that TAAG is pleased with the auction being held at The Tech Complex.

“It’s a good central location and we’ve gotten some amazing donations for the auction,” Rougeau added.

Donations include gift cards from local businesses such as restaurants, hardware stores, Cineplex gift cards, golf round cards and arts and crafts.
