Bad weather not stopping Algoma Ride for Autism

The annual motorcycle ride has raised money to help Algoma Autism Foundation provide programming and social events for families in the Sault and area since 2013

Heavy rainfall and the threat of thunderstorms isn’t slowing down this year’s Algoma Ride for Autism, which kicks off at Highland Ford today at noon.

The annual motorcycle ride raises funds for the Algoma Autism Foundation, which organizes programming and social events for families impacted by autism in Sault Ste. Marie and the surrounding area.

Algoma Autism Foundation director Jamie Boston told SooToday there were 10 riders registered for the event as of 10 a.m. Saturday.

“But as the weather clears up, you'll see more bikes rolling for sure,” Boston said.

Funds for the organization are generated through participants collecting pledges, donations from unions and corporate sponsors, a 50/50 draw and silent auction.

Saturday's event will see riders depart from Highland Ford and head to Heyden, Bellevue Valley and the Goulais River area before returning to town at the Esquire Club for post-ride festivities.

The Algoma Ride for Autism has raised more than $100,000 since the fundraiser was first launched in 2013.
