City council voted on Monday to change the parking rules on part of Brock Street near the Sault Ste. Marie Police Services Division 2.
On the east side of Brock from Wellington Street 30 metres south, signs will be erected warning that only police vehicles and vehicles authorized by police (such as tow trucks) may park there.
A similar prohibition will apply on the same side of Brock from 30 metres south of Wellington to 45 metres south.
"With the relocation of the Collision Reporting Centre to the Sault Ste. Marie Police Services Division 2 building on Brock Street, an area of on-street parking will be reserved for police vehicles and authorized vehicles such as tow trucks," says Maggie McAuley, the city's manager of design and transportation engineering.
Police started operations at 180 Brock St. on April 28, with an initial staff comprised of a sergeant and four constables.
The Collision Reporting Centre moved into the Division 2 police building on May 28.
