Saultites are invited to gather with their elbows up this weekend.
An Elbows Up Celebration will take place Saturday starting at the downtown plaza.
Organizers say it’s a chance to come together in a non-partisan fashion to show our love for Canada.
“Join your family, bring a friend, bring a foldable lawn chair, bring your flag, and enjoy an afternoon of music and Canadian goodwill,” they said in a news release.
Festivities kick off at 1 p.m. with a welcome by Garden River First Nations Chief, Karen Bell.
That will be followed by local Indigenous youth boys group Giigidoo Nimkii (Rolling Thunder) drumming for champion pow wow dancer, Tyrone Shawana, and the Great Lakes Dancers. There will also be live local music.
Captain Canada himself, Mr. Jay Case, will emcee the event, which will wrap up with a massive singing of O Canada led by the Sault’s own, Annette Bouchard.
Similar Elbows Up events have taken place across the country, including in Toronto, Victoria and Halifax.
“These joyous, fun filled family celebrations showcase the respect, the strength, the resilience, and the pride of all Canadians, no matter what political stripe we wear,” organizers added.
“We are a sovereign nation and we are strong and free.”
Sault’s rally will coincide with Bridging our Friendship events at the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit, the Bluewater Bridge in Port Huron, and the International Bridge in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
