With the potential for up to 35 mm of rain in the area over the next five days, the Sault Ste. Marie Region Conservation Authority has issued a flood outlook statement as a result.

Between 20 and 35 mm of rain is in the forecast with the temperature expected to warm up as well.

The Conservation Authority also reports snowpack measurements indicate an approximate depth of 75 cm, with an average water equivalent exceeding 200 mm, which are above the long-term average and suggest an increased potential for above-normal runoff due to the combined effects of rising temperatures and anticipated precipitation.

Moderate runoff is expected, which may lead to increased streamflow and water levels with current stream flows are already above seasonal norms.

Localized flooding may occur in low-lying areas, with potential pooling on roadways.

Flood control channels managed by the SSMRCA are currently operating at normal levels, but water levels are expected to rise in response to precipitation and runoff.

The statement is in effect until April 22.
