Members of the public from both sides of the Canada-U.S. border took part in the annual International Bridge Walk Saturday.
Despite tensions over the ongoing trade war between the two countries, the long-standing spirit of friendship between Canadians and Americans was evident as people crossed the bridge from Sault, Michigan to Sault, Ontario.
“People are going to walk no matter what,” said Sault, Ontario’s Mouse Ryan.
“I've been doing this for about 10 years. We want to be united. We are family. We go across, they come across. It's a win-win for everyone,” Ryan told SooToday.
“Everybody's pretty friendly and easy going,” said Jenni Heinbokel, who travelled from Dayton, Ohio to take part in the walk.
Saturday marked the first International Bridge Walk for Sault, Ontario’s Mike Francis.
“We're all here for each other. I think the Bridge Walk says that it's all about people. It's not about all the politics and everything else. It's about everybody getting along,” Francis said.
