The sidewalk along Great Northern Road was packed with positive spirits as this year's IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer's helped spark conversations around the disease.
The annual event raises funds and awareness for the 3,400 families in the area who rely on dementia-related services through the Alzheimer Society Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District.
As of Sunday afternoon, more than $76,000 was raised by participating teams and individuals.
Those donations will go towards supporting local services that improve the quality of life for people living with dementia and Alzheimer's. All funds stay in the Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding area.
Among the Society’s services and resources that directly benefit from the donations are their adult day program and minds in motion program, as well as cognitive assessments, counselling, and recreational therapy.
Prior to Sunday's 2-km walk, attendees also enjoyed games, face painting, refreshments, and treats in the Society's parking lot.
