Early detection of a fire and a quick response by Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services limited the amount of damage a Henry Street home incurred late this afternoon.
At 4:22 p.m., on Monday, fire services received a report of smoke at a residence on Henry Street and found fire as well as smoke in the home when they arrived.
Fire prevention officers are currently on scene trying to determine the cause of the fire, says Platoon Chief Mike Oliverio.
Initial reports indicate most of the damage appears to be confined to the kitchen and basement.
Due to the fumes and odours produced by the fire, the family living in the home will have to find other lodgings at least for tonight, said Oliverio.
