Lottery fans can now support the Sault Area Hospital Foundation during their trips to certain local businesses and convenience stores.

Whether purchasing tickets for the 50/50 draw or the Split the Pot Lottery, shoppers can now find tickets at the following seven local businesses:

  • Our Place Confectionary
  • Krazy Ernies
  • Paquette’s Confectionary
  • Millies Mini-Mart
  • New York News in Station Mall
  • Airways General Store
  • Metallo’s Mini Mart

Until now, participants in the draws have had to purchase tickets online, but they can now be purchased via debit and credit in person, thanks to Ontario “regulations becoming more advanced.”

“We decided to launch across a few local convenience stores in the Sault,” said Ashley Cerra, communications and development officer.

“This is phase one, hopefully, and we hope to continue to expand the program with support from the community.”

The 50/50 draw has run for the past five years, and Split the Pot Lottery for the past year, with all proceeds helping to purchase needed medical equipment for Sault Area Hospital.

“Right now we're focusing on patient beds and monitors, so when a ticket is purchased for an SAHF lottery, they'll be supporting the purchase of patient beds and monitors at our hospital,” Cerra said.

The foundation’s lottery programs have raised close to $5 million since they launched, and Cerra said she is excited to see the lottery program expand.

Foundation representatives were at New York News in Station Mall on Wednesday morning to celebrate the lottery’s launch into local businesses.

“Overall, we're just really excited that we can offer another way for our community to take part in supporting local health care, and we're excited to celebrate the launch," Cerra said.
