Property owners block access to some local snowmobile trails

No entry from Maki Road while some 'challenges' are dealt with

It will definitely be a white Christmas Day for members of the Sault Trailblazers Snowmobile Club, with some of the club's 400+ kilometres of groomed trail open for use by holders of Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) permits.

As SooToday reported earlier this month, the City of Sault Ste. Marie recently signed its first-ever land-use agreement allowing permit holders to sled on city property.

But the local club still has more to do to satisfy OFSC and its insurers before all trail segments can open.

"Our priority has been to get the main trails open, which we have been able to do," Sault Trailblazers said today in a social media post.

"There are at least two property owners that are restricting access including the one at Maki Road," the club said.

"As this was one of the original trails, we are not giving up on it and hope to reopen it at some point but have some challenges to deal with."

All this month, the club's groomers have been clearing and grooming trails.

The Trailblazers have also been working with city to re-open a trail segment that links to the Fairfield Inn and Suites on Great Northern Road.

Always check the OFSC interactive guide for the latest status of the trails. https://ofsc.evtrails.com
