Student's from Sault College's Social Service Worker program held a fundraiser in late-March that raised money for Helping Hands.
The fundraiser, dubbed Helping Hearts for Helping Hands, was held at Grand Gardens and raised over $3,500.
The event featured live music, games, and a silent auction.
The money raised will directly support Helping Hands’ mission to provide clothing, household goods, and basic essentials to vulnerable residents in the Sault.
“This was more than just a fundraiser,” said Robert Peace, president of Helping Hands. “It was a reminder that the next generation of social workers isn't waiting to make a difference, they’re doing it now. Their compassion and dedication will impact the people we serve, and I’m incredibly grateful for their work.”
The event was part of the graduating class’s community engagement capstone and allowed students to organize and lead a public initiative with tangible outcomes.
“I’m so proud of what these students accomplished,” said Kelsey Dugas, faculty member in the Social Service Worker program. “They embraced the opportunity not just to complete a class project, but to step into leadership roles that reflect social work values, including community, empathy, and action.”
