Soo Mill's roof truss manufacturing plant on Sackville Road is closed after one of its buildings was heavily damaged.

The Ministry of Labour is investigating a reported structure failure at a custom truss-making plant in Sault Ste. Marie.

A spokesperson for the ministry confirmed with SooToday Thursday that Soo Mill and Lumber Company Ltd. is the employer involved. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

"While there is no legal requirement under the act to report the failure, a ministry inspector has been assigned to the case," the spokesperson wrote. "The inspector will work with the employer following the collapse to ensure the safety of workers entering and exiting the building."

News tips suggested the roof of a building at the truss manufacturing plant on Sackville Road collapsed sometime on Sunday. An employee of Soo Mill informed SooToday on Wednesday that the truss plant was closed.

Messages left for management by SooToday Wednesday were not returned.

The incident comes just days after the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development launched an investigation into the partial collapse of a canopy on Algoma Steel property that happened on Dec. 10.

At the time, the Sault steelmaker said the collapse was likely due to excessive snow accumulation.
