Are you passionate about animal welfare? The Board of Directors for the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society (SSMHS) is seeking new Directors.
About SSMHS Board of Directors
The SSMHS Volunteer Board is committed to setting and overseeing strategic priorities and ensuring fiscal responsibility. Directors on the Board serve three-year terms with opportunities for re-election.
Time Commitment and Requirements
- Approximately 5 hours per month, including meetings and task force participation.
- Board members must reside in Sault Ste. Marie or surrounding areas.
- Must adhere to a confidentiality agreement and ethics policy.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
For the 2025 recruitment cycle, we seek individuals with expertise in:
- Financial management & accounting
- Human resources
- Non-profit governance
- Strategic planning & business development
- Fundraising and community partnerships
About You
The ideal candidate shares our commitment to animal welfare and brings skills needed by the Board. Characteristics we value include:
- Prior board experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
- Relevant experience or a combination of work and personal background that supports the goals of the SSMHS.
- A collaborative and inclusive mindset.
What You Can Expect as a Board Member
As a Director, you will:
- Oversee and support the Executive Director in advancing our goals.
- Contribute to financial oversight, risk management, and the development of board competencies.
- Serve on at least one task force as needed.
