Saultites on both sides of the border are being invited to participate in the 2025 City Nature Challenge.
It’s a global competition to gather observations about local plants and wildlife.
Those living in Algoma District and in Chippewa County, Michigan will form an international team for the competition that runs between April 25 and April 28.
Participants will need to download the iNaturalist app, click “Observe” and take pictures of wild plants and animals and record sounds.
Group activities have been organized to encourage event participation:
- Friday, April 25 – 9 a.m. at Fort St. Joseph, led by The Kensington Conservancy. Visit kensingtonconservancy.org to register.
- Saturday, April 26 – 10 a.m. at Whitefish Island (Parks Canada, lower parking lot of Canal Dr) led by the Sault Naturalists. Non-members will be required to complete and sign the Sault Naturalists Waiver. Contact Val Walker at 705-542-5066 or valwalker8@yahoo.ca to RSVP.
- Saturday, April 26 – 12 – 2 p.m. at the Sault Seal Recreation Area (2601 Minneapolis St. Sault Ste. Marie, MI) led by the Chippewa Luce Mackinac Conservation District.
- Monday, April 28 – at 8 a.m. in the Echo Bay area and at 10 a.m. at the Ojibway Park Nature Trail led by The Kensington Conservancy. Visit kensingtonconservancy.org/events to register.
