To honour the National Day of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQIA+ people (MMIWG2S), dozens of residents came together at the boardwalk this evening for the annual Sisters in Spirit Vigil.
The Indigenous Women’s Anti-Violence Task Force, in collaboration with the Bawaating Anishinabekwewok and the Nimkii-Naabkawagan Family Crisis Shelter, hosted the observance that included drum songs, a tobacco ceremony, and a candlelit vigil.
The goal of the ceremony, like many held across the country on Tuesday, is to support the families and survivors of MMIWG2S, while working towards building a safer community.
