The speed limit on Highway 17 in Huron Shores will be dropping as culvert work is done.

Beginning today, anyone travelling on Highway 17 in the Thessalon area will notice a decrease in the speed limit until the fall.

The speed limit through the stretch of highway in the area will drop from 90 km/h to 70 km/h  because of construction zone along Highway 17.

The construction zone stretch begins west of Thessalon and runs through to Iron Bridge.

This speed reduction is in place to ensure the safety of workers and motorists during the Ministry of Transportation's culvert replacement and roadwork project affecting the following locations within the Municipality of Huron Shores:

  • MacBeth Creek culvert
  • Ladouceur Creek culvert
  • Harris Creek culvert

Construction is expected to run from May 1 to Nov. 30, 2025.
