The Ministry of Natural Resources says it is closely monitoring water levels at a dam northwest of Thessalon as well as in the Thessalon River and says a flood watch is in effect for the area until Tuesday.
A flood watch indicates that a potential for flooding exists, the MNR Sault Ste. Marie/Blind River District said in a news release.
"Currently water levels and flows are below flood critical threshold parameters, but the Rydal Bank Dam is at emergency preparedness levels," the MNR said.
Snowpack in the upper watershed coupled with forecast warm temperatures and precipitation are expected to increase water levels and flows, according to the MNR.
The ministry noted daytime temperatures were expected to reach 16°C this afternoon with cloudy conditions and a 40 per cent chance of showers and potential for thunderstorms.
Daytime highs of 7°C to 8°C are expected over the next three days, with nighttime lows remaining above freezing.
Sunny conditions are expected on Wednesday followed by rainy conditions with approximately 10mm forecast for Thursday and 1mm forecast for Friday.
"Water levels and stream flows across the district are elevated from spring snow melt and recent precipitation events," the MNR said.
Water levels on the upper side of Rydal Bank Dam and the Thessalon watershed have begun to drop however downstream conditions have risen, the ministry said.
Risks may include fast moving frigid water with rapidly changing conditions.
