Algoma soccer earns Sunday split

After being swept in a pair of games on Saturday, Algoma University split games against Waterloo on Sunday afternoon

It was a split on Sunday for Algoma University in Ontario University Athletics soccer action on Sunday afternoon at Superior Heights.

On the men’s side, a pair of goals from Dylan Rennie helped lift the Algoma men to a 3-2 victory to earn a split on the weekend.

Midfielder Ryan Marchan had the other goal for Algoma.

In the women’s game, Waterloo scored a pair of goals in the second half to break open a tight game and pick up a 4-1 victory and complete the weekend sweep.

The Warriors took a 2-0 lead in the opening half on goals by Stephanie Penta and Danielle Erb before Algoma’s Kirstina Richer cut the lead to 2-1 midway through the half.

Kaitlyn Unger and Kendra Wynter had Waterloo’s goals in the second half.

Both Algoma teams return to action next weekend with a pair of double headers on the road against the University of Windsor.
