Aquatic Club concludes season

The Sault Ste. Marie Aquatic Club concluded the swim season over the weekend with a third and fourth place finish at the North Eastern Ontario Regional Huronia Long Course Championships.

The Sault Ste. Marie Aquatic Club concluded the swim season over the weekend with a third and fourth place finish at the North Eastern Ontario Regional Huronia Long Course Championships.

In developmental action, SSMAC placed third out of 17 teams while finishing fourth in the 20-team pre-provincial division.

"We competed well this weekend against some good competition and I am already excited about the prospects for next year," said SSMAC head coach Rob Moreside.

"The results will show that our team has a strong nucleus of young swimmers ready to carry the club over the next few seasons."

In pre-provincial action, Beck Day and Kyle Matthews led SSMAC with six first place finishes each in the girls 10-11 and boys 12-13 age groups, respectively.

In the boys 14-15 year-old category, Nick Shoust took four first place finishes and added two third place results.

Other top three finishers included Sarah Theodossiou, Brian Lee, Samantha Filek, Joshua Lawrence, Sarah Turgeon, Peter Olinger, Shannon Hazelton, Jeff Byrne, Alex Bonne and Blaine Dolcetti.

In the developmental division, Alexandra Tracy topped SSMAC with four first place finishes and a second to claim the high point trophy in the girls nine-and-under group.

Kelly Geiling also won the high point trophy in the girls 10-11 category with three victories, two second place finishes and a third.

Adam Mossa placed second overall in the boys 10-11 division with a pair of wins, a second place and two third place finishes.

Carrie-Lynne Smale had a second and two third place results in the girls nine-and-under category.
