The St. Mary's Knights have repeated as the Central Bowl Champions.
The Knights, the two-time local High School Football League champions and Northern Ontario Secondary Schools Association (NOSSA) champions, won their second straight Central Bowl with a 19-6 win over Barrie's Eastview Secondary School, the Georgian Bay Secondary Schools Association (GBSSA) champions, on Thursday afternoon at Skydome in Toronto.
The win was also the Knights third title in the four years since the Ontario Federation of Schools Athletic Association's (OFSAA) Bowl Series began in 2000.
To add to the win, the Knights had to make some serious adjustments as the game was played with a more Canadian flavour with three down rules instead of the four downs played locally.
The game opened the six-game OFSAA Bowl Series, which is being played at Skydome in conjunction with Saturday afternoon's Vanier Cup.
Knights quarterback Anthony Amadio hooked up with receiver Phil Ruicci for a 68 yard touchdown while Andrew Posteraro hauled in a six yard Amadio pass for another major.
Posteraro also kicked field goals from 24 and 27 yards out while adding a convert as well.
Knights running back Kayvon Fatemizadeh led the offense with 105 yards on 19 carries while Amadio completed four of eight passes for 79 yards.
The win completes an undefeated 9-0 season for the Knights. After completing the high school regular season with a 5-0 record, the Knights cruised to a city championship with a 29-1 win over Sir James Dunn after a semi-final win over Bawating.
The Knights then nipped North Bay's West Ferris Trojans 17-14 in overtime to capture the NOSSA crown.
