Sault native David Yukich became a first ever provincial golf champion over the weekend.

Yukich, a high school teacher now residing in Kelowna, British Columbia, captured the inaugural B.C. Men's Golf Club Champions' Championship held at the Shadow Ridge Golf Club in Kelowna.

In the final round on Sunday, Yukich birdied the 18th hole to salvage an even par 72 for the round and overcome a six-stroke deficit to claim the championship.

Yukich represents his home Sunset Ranch Golf Club.

With the win, Yukich will now represent the province at the Canadian Men's Golf Club Champions' Championship June 18-20 in Duncan, B.C.
