A shootout goal by rookie forward Dominic Mufarreh was the difference for the Soo Greyhounds on Thursday night.

As the Greyhounds opened Ontario Hockey League exhibition action on the road on Thursday, the 16-year-old beat Sudbury Wolves goaltender Jake McGrath to give the Greyhounds a 4-3 victory in their first exhibition game of the season.

Joe Carroll also scored in the shootout for the Greyhounds while Blake Murray had the lone shootout goal for the Wolves.

Sophomore forward Zack Trott had a pair of goals in regulation time for the Greyhounds while Cullen McLean and Cole MacKay had two assists each. Alex Johnston also scored for the Greyhounds, who played the game minus a number of veterans due to NHL camps.

Rookie netminder Ethan Taylor got the start for the Greyhounds and stopped 17 of the 18 shots he faced. Overage Tyler Johnston made 20 saves on 22 shots in just over 30 minutes of action and stopped three of Sudbury’s four shooters in the shootout.

Anthony Tabak, Eric Eschweiler and Quinton Byfield scored for the Wolves.

McGrath made 20 saves for Sudbury.

The two teams finish off exhibition action on Sunday afternoon at the GFL Memorial Gardens in a 2 p.m. start.
