With some former members of the Soo Greyhounds staff already serving various roles in the organization, the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs have once again looked to the Ontario Hockey League club for new staff members.
The most recent hire by the Maple Leafs is Victor Carneiro, who will serve as an amateur scout for the club.
Carneiro spent five seasons as the Greyhounds director of player personnel, a position he was promoted to in July 2013 after three seasons as a scout in the Toronto area for the team.
Prior to joining the Greyhounds, Carneiro spent 14 seasons as a scout with the London Knights.
Carneiro was part of a number of hirings by the Maple Leafs this week.
Among them was Haley Wickenheiser, who takes on the role of assistant director of player development. Wickenheiser retired from hockey in 2017 after a long and decorated career with the Canadian women’s national team.
The team has also hired some new members of the scouting department in addition to Carneiro. One of the new hires is Chris Roque, who joins the team after time with the Greyhounds as a scout.
Roque will serve as amateur scout with the Maple Leafs.
Meanwhile, as training camp approaches next week, the Greyhounds are in the midst of hiring a replacement for Matt Rodell, who served as the manager of ticket sales and analytics.
Earlier this week the Greyhounds hired Julian Cooper as its new athletic therapist.
Cooper takes over for Aaron Madgett, who left the club this summer.
A Montreal, Que. native, Cooper joins the Greyhounds after working at the athletic therapist and head strength and conditioning coach with Okanagan Hockey Academy Europe based in St. Polten, Austria.
